What to look for in a Wedding Celebrant

Choosing a Celebrant for your Wedding Ceremony – the most important part of your wedding day – can be totally overwhelming. Here are a few tips!

  • It is important to choose a Celebrant who will be able to work with you to create your ceremony as a reflection of your relationship, your love story, your style, and your wedding theme.
  • The Ceremony can be one of the most emotional parts of your wedding.  You need someone you feel comfortable to laugh and cry with, someone that is going to fit with your personalities.
  • A Celebrant who is experienced with creative writing and that will word the Ceremony in a fun, sincere, heartfelt, interesting and clear way is one of the traits that the bride and groom may not think about until she or he is actually behind the mic!
  • Make sure that you have a Wedding Services Agreement that ensures you are getting what you are expecting – for your own peace of mind.
  • Know that all the legal documentation, Notice of Intention to Marry, Declaration of No Legal Impediment and Marriage Certificates will be drawn up and lodged in accordance with the law. What help you will get with the format of the Ceremony and different elements such as candle-lighting, sand-pouring and hand-fasting to make it your own.  As well as assistance with your personal vows, poems and readings. Know when the balance of fees is expected. And know what time the Celebrant will arrive and what they will do to help you with a sound system, linking with the playlist, or the videographer for sound and guest announcements.
  • Let the Celebrant know your colour scheme – and choose a Celebrant who is happy to dress accordingly and blend in with your photographs! There’s nothing worse than a celebrant in a bright lumo dress or suit when your bridal party are wearing blush!

The most popular wedding day and time is between 2-4pm on a Saturday. So get in early! If possible, be flexible on your time or date. Early morning or twilight weddings, and Weekdays or Sundays are often easier dates to book at your preferred venue.
